Gilead Sciences to close Seattle office; shutdown impacts 72 employees
Biopharma giant Gilead Sciences will shut down its office in Seattle’s Eastlake neighborhood, the company confirmed to GeekWire on Wednesday. A filing with the Washington state employment security department revealed the closure, which affects 72 workers.
- “We are closing our Seattle office as part of our efforts to align resources with our long-term strategic goals,” the company said in a statement. Some employees will be able to work remotely in Seattle, while others can apply for other positions within Gilead or request severance and job placement services, the company said.
- The Foster City, Calif.-based company has 12 other offices worldwide and reported third quarter revenue of $7.5 billion, up 7% year-over-year.
- Other large biopharma companies with satellite offices in the Seattle region include Astellas Biopharma, Moderna, 2seventy bio and Bristol Myers Squibb.
